I crocheted this dress using synthetic ribbon that I salvaged from discarded materials at my university. Inspired by the texture and potential of the material, I explored various crochet techniques, using different stitch patterns. The project took three weeks to complete. I began with a simple, detailed moodboard, and as I had a limited amount of ribbon, I started crocheting and went with the flow. While I initially planned on adding sleeves, the limited quantity of ribbon guided the final silhouette. After finishing the construction, I first experimented with natural dyes using spinach and coriander, but the synthetic fiber did not retain the color. I later used a synthetic dye, pre-treating the fabric with tannin and alum to achieve the final tone. This project was an experiment that helped me learn so much throughout the process.
